Our Model

Three Core Services. Support at Every Level.

Consult organizations. Train staff. Coach youth and emerging adults. Each service strengthens the next — so support reaches every level of an organization.

For Organizations

Consulting

We work with organizational leaders to examine existing practices, programs, and environments through a trauma-informed lens, identify opportunities for improvement, and strengthen how their organizations support youth and emerging adults.

For Staff

Training

Our training helps staff better understand behavior, recognize the influence of stress and assumptions, strengthen emotional awareness, and respond to challenging situations with appropriate boundaries and greater intention.

Coaching

Through organizational partnerships, we provide nonclinical coaching that supports emotional awareness, self-understanding, communication, confidence, self-advocacy, resilience, and practical life skills.

Private adult coaching is a separate pathway — available directly to adults, outside the organizational model.

Recognizable Moments

Challenges Your Organization May Recognize

A few common situations where a trauma-informed lens helps staff respond with understanding instead of reaction.

A young person shuts down or withdraws

Staff see disengagement and want to understand what the young person may be experiencing beneath the surface.

Behavior escalates during transitions

Changes in routine, setting, or expectations trigger reactions that look like defiance but may carry other meaning.

Disrespect without a clear response

Staff are unsure how to address disrespect without escalating the moment or abandoning boundaries.

Repeated conflict in a program

The same tensions keep surfacing, and the team wants to look at patterns rather than only at individuals.

These situations can create challenges for staff, program leaders, and the young people they serve. Traumana provides consulting and training to help organizations examine these patterns, strengthen understanding, and develop more informed, practical responses.

Our Approach

Behavior Has Context

We consider development, environment, relationships, emotional needs, stress, and experiences — without assuming that every behavior is caused by trauma. Understanding what may be underneath behavior helps adults respond with intention instead of reaction.

Understanding and accountability can exist together.

Understanding behavior does not mean excusing it. We help adults maintain appropriate expectations, boundaries, and accountability while responding to the person, not just the behavior.

Founder

Katrina B. Phillips, CARC-I, CARC-II

Before founding Traumana, Katrina was the child whose behavior adults were trying to understand. Today, she brings together that lived experience, the perspective gained through healing and adult reflection, and professional training in trauma-informed support.

Her approach helps adults ask better questions, consider what may be happening beneath visible behavior, and respond with greater understanding—while recognizing that every young person has their own story.
